Dance Studio Tips: Keeping Staff Members Happy, Part 2

Last updated on February 21, 2020 by Sozo Staff Leave a Comment

Your dance studio will run so much more smoothly when you hire quality staff members and keep them happy! Not only will you as the director have fewer headaches associated with the fallout of high turnover rates — including hiring and training new staff members on a regular basis — but you’ll also appreciate the kind of positive environment and growth mentality that comes with a stable, well-adjusted staff.

In Part 1, we looked at 2 key ways to keep staff members at your dance studio happy: promoting a healthy work-life balance and providing opportunities for professional development. We also looked at how your dance studio management software can help you to do those things. Now we have a couple more suggestions for you that will help increase the happiness quotient for your dance studio staff — and, by extension, for your entire dance studio family! And as always, a robust dance studio management software solution will be there to support you every step of the way.

Incorporate Regular Opportunities for Evaluation and Recognition

The growth-minded individuals you’ve hired will, no doubt, appreciate opportunities for both evaluation and recognition. And the two really do go hand in hand. Especially when you’re already investing in your employees by providing for their professional growth, it makes sense to include regular evaluations in your dance studio. As long as you keep the tone positive and the standard fair, the professionals you’ve hired will be glad for the review. Along with any constructive criticism you provide, though, make sure you’re also readily giving recognition when it’s due. Perhaps consider annual or bi-annual reviews along with monthly categories for recognition.

When it’s time to share blank evaluation forms with staff members, dance studio management software allows you to easily post blank forms to the Staff Portal. When you need to schedule evaluations, dance studio software makes coordinating calendars easy. And then when you have completed evaluation forms to share with individual staff members, dance studio software allows you to easily send and track interactions with each staff member. If you wish to extend congratulations on achievements or milestones with your dance studio parents, you can do that through the Parent Portal which most top-of-the-line dance studio management software solutions offer.

Create Regular Opportunities to Receive Input from Staff Members

Your dance studio staff is definitely your most significant asset, and you may not be leveraging them to benefit your dance studio as much as you could be. The kind of quality, growth-minded professionals in whom you continue to invest are the ideal voices you should listen to, as you evaluate your current program and look toward the future. Not only will your dance studio benefit from utilizing the expertise of your staff members, but so will your employees, who will appreciate having a say.

You can further involve staff members in the business side of your dance studio by conducting weekly KPI reviews, based on reports from your dance studio software of course! We’ve seen many dance studios experience unprecedented growth when they link these meetings to performance-based compensation, allowing your entire team to directly benefit when your dance studio enjoys new growth.
